STORY

TTOS is set shortly after the events of DMC1 (actual time space left deliberately vague ala Capcom) and follows the recent death of Dante's partner Trish. (although she will appear briefly in the film, in a flashback-esque role) The story deals with three ancient artifacts known as the "tears of Sparda", which were key in the expunging of Sparda's demonic form and powers all those thousands of years ago. They have remained undiscovered all that time, hidden away and forgotten, faded into legend and hearsay… until now.

It is a brand new story, but it is also based firmly in the true cosmology and canon of the games. Special care was taken to remain totally loyal to the DMC storyline and its characters, because as gamers, we have gotten sick of this Hollywood trend of totally overhauling a series for the big screen. If the series is already loved by millions and was deemed worthy of becoming a film in the first place, surely it doesn’t need to be completely rewritten in order to work. It works already! The TTOS director went as far as hiring a new crew member specifically to act as "canonical expert"- basically proof read and look over the films script and overall content. That would be me.

As the film's canonical expert I have personally ensured that the storyline of the film is canonically water-tight. There are absolutely no breaches in canon, no contradictions of fact, no timeline clashes, (save perhaps, the as yet unknown information from DMC4) this film can slip cleanly and efficiently into the DMC universe. Unlike certain other game films and fan projects, this one is 100% loyal to the DMC series, made by true fans, and with no ulterior motives.

I have proof read the script draft by draft as it has been developed, and I think the final completed script is fantastic. It brilliantly captures the tone, atmosphere and setting of the games, and although a continuous storyline, has managed to emulate the same kind of character and progression as the games themselves. I was particularly impressed with the films dialogue and character portrayals, which are just really well written, and astonishingly accurate. On occasion, I was disappointed that these lines weren't from the actual game or manga, as they were just such great examples of the characters personalities. The TTOS scriptwriter really does know these characters inside out... I probably shouldn't reveal this kind of insider information, but the script features not only the dialogue and actions, but extra notes on the characters thought processes and why they are doing and saying everything. It's this kind of insight that will really help the characters come to life in the film.
